Naval Station Everett

Everett was recently identified as one of the hottest growth centers in the Puget Sound, in part because of the addition of the $265 million Naval Station Everett. The naval station's presence adds an average of $350 million a year, including indirect impacts, to the county's economy.

The 117-acre base provides facilities and services for a nuclear-powered Nimitz Class aircraft carrier, the USS Abraham Lincoln. The Lincoln arrived for permanent home porting in January 1997. Naval Station Everett is also the permanent homeport for three destroyers and three frigates. In 2002, one of the destroyers will be decommissioned and later replaced by a new Arleigh Burke guided missile destroyer. Naval Station Everett is also home to a US Coast Guard buoy tender and a military sealift command ship that spends most of the time away from Everett. In all, 16,000 uniformed and civilian personnel and their families make a $350 million impact on Everett and Snohomish County. In addition, the base buys $100 million a year in goods and services, ranging from ship repair to paper goods.

Naval Station Everett is the Navy's most modern facility. Construction started in November 1987 and during the first week of 1994 personnel moved into the recently completed Fleet Support and Administration buildings and officially began operations at Naval Station Everett. An official dedication ceremony was conducted with more than 1,000 guests in attendance April 8, 1994. The first ships to be homeported at Everett arrived Sept. 3, 1994. Currently, Everett is home to two destroyers, three frigates, one aircraft carrier, and two Coast Guard cutters.

The Defense Commissary Agency commissary (DeCA), located at the Navy Support Complex in Marysville, Washington, provides complete customer service in all departments: meat, produce, grocery, bakery, deli and fresh fish on ice. The new commissary has eight foot wide aisles with over 12,000 items to select.

Dominant themes are customer service and savings for patrons.  DeCA's most recent market basket survey revealed commissary shoppers saved 29.2% over commercial supermarkets, including supercenters.  The commissary operates similar to a commercial grocery store, accepting coupons, food stamps and Federal Women, Infant, Children Vouchers (WIC). Personal checks can be written up to $25 over the purchase amount, but payroll checks cannot be accommodated. Mastercard, Visa, and Debit Cards are also accepted. The Telephone number is
(425) 304-3436.

Hours of operation are:

*Monday: Closed

*Tuesday-Friday: 9 a.m.-7 p.m.

*Saturday: 8 a.m.-7 p.m.

*Sunday: 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
